There Are Multiple Types of Partial Dentures
There are different types of partial dentures. If you prefer a more permanent partial denture, we can use an implant-supported method. The implant method takes a little longer than traditional, removable partial dentures take to be created and placed because the implant method requires surgical placement. Once the implant (a titanium rod-like structure) is placed into your jawbone, it will need a few months to fully fuse with your bone for permanency before a prosthetic tooth partial denture can be placed on it. There are also different materials that can be used for partial dentures. Some partial dentures have metal components while others are created completely of a flexible plastic material. The type of partial dentures you receive will depend on your preferences and your needs.
How Partial Dentures are Created
Partial dentures are reserved for people who have lost one or more teeth, but not all of their teeth. You will be able to remove partial dentures when you want to. Partial dentures are created to match your other nearby teeth in color and shape. Clasps will be attached to your partial dentures that you can secure to other teeth to help keep them in place.
In most cases, the creation of your partial dentures takes around a month or a month and a half from your first evaluation to the placement of your custom dentures. We will examine your remaining teeth and gums on the upper and lower arches of your mouth. Then we will take an impression of your gums and teeth that will be used for the creation of your partial dentures. We will also create an impression of your bite and determine how your upper and lower arches meet. We will discuss ways for your remaining teeth to help support your partial dentures. Once your partial dentures are created, you will visit us for a fitting. We will make sure everything fits into place securely and that you can speak correctly. After final fabrication is completed, you will be able to head home with your brand new, custom-created partial dentures.
